Backup connection for fiber optic AirInternet

What is a backup solution anyway?

This piece is written from the world of Internet connections. By backup, then, we mean a backup connection for the main connection you use as an Internet connection at home or in your business.
In colloquial language, however, backup often means a copy of files.
Files on your PC, laptop or mobile.
On Wikipedia you can find a lot of information about this, .
Also google support or the website of the consumer association give a lot of good information about this.
In this piece we limit ourselves to backup connections.

Is a backup solution for fiber optics even necessary? Yes indeed!

A flawlessly functioning Internet connection is crucial for any organization. Everything is in the Cloud these days, from online workstations to VoIP telephony.
If the Internet connection goes down, it can cause many problems.
At best, an Internet outage lasts only a few minutes, but at worst, it can last several days.
Employees cannot perform their work due to the Internet outage; VoIP telephony does not work, e-mail traffic is impossible, one cannot access files in the cloud,
customers cannot use debit cards etc...
Work is at a standstill for some time due to the Internet outage and as everyone knows: time is money. That makes a backup solution a good choice and even necessary.
Ensure yourself, or your customers, extremely high uptime with our AirInternet Backup !

With a backup solution, you are online to the max !

A backup connection is an additional connection that is always on standby.
If the main connection fails, the backup connection takes over immediately.
You hardly notice it and can continue working as usual.
Tip: It would not be wise to request the backup connection from the same provider, because if this provider has a major failure, the backup connection is also down ...
You often see a combination of Fiber and a VDSL connection or 4G connection.
The standard options with a 4G modem offered by telecom providers such as KPN or TMobile may be an option for small organizations but the limitation of a data bundle and local 4G coverage can still cause problems. The daily bundle and/or range are often limited.
Our AirInternet backup does not have this data limitation!!!

How does a backup connection work?

With our AirInternet 4G backup you stay connected, the organization just runs like clockwork during an Internet outage.
If the main connection (Internet via fiber, cable or ADSL) fails, the router automatically switches to the backup connection.
This can be set once during installation by the IT partner so that it runs automatically in the background.
Standby for when needed.
Our Internet backup ensures that work in the office continues and the organization (and reputation) do not suffer any damage.
With our backup solution you remain accessible, you can continue to work online without interruption and you have all your files at your disposal until the problem is resolved.

What Types of backup solutions are there?

You can install the following types of backup:

1 Through a second fixed connection via xDSL or consumer fiber.
A second fiber or xDSL connection is then used to handle disruptions. We do not provide this, but if you contact us we will put you in touch with a good supplier.
2 Via a 4G modem with data bundle. The network is then set up so that if the main connection is lost, the connection automatically switches to the backup connection. This allows everyone to continue working.
3 Via a 4G modem without data bundle. Without data bundle you pay per GB and the subscription costs are significantly lower than a solution with data bundle.
4 With Sim Only. You place the SIM card in the hardware yourself and are responsible for the correct configuration between the main and backup connection. Depending on your needs, this SIM card can be provided with a monthly data bundle, or you pay for the data afterwards.

How do I know which fiber optic backup connection suits my business?

We are regularly asked for a simple solution with the lowest possible price. But in many cases, cheap is also expensive . Before buying, it is wise to think about project planning and installation.

For example:
If you want the backup 4G router to switch directly to the 4G connection when the primary line goes down, you can do so.
The underlying router/firewall does not notice this change and continues to do its job.
The switchover is so fast that there is usually no noticeable connection hiccups even with VoIP calls.
On our site there is a very handy and clear diagram that you can use to see which type of backup connection best suits your organization.
